Most Popular Beer in America

by tom on December 20, 2006

Can you guess what the worlds most popular beer is? If you guessed Budweiser, you were just partially right. I’ll give you another hint: it was introduced in 1982. Have you figured it out yet? OK, I’ll give you another hint. It is a classic American light lager. Yes you finally got it, Bud Light.

According to Budweiser, it is brewed with two-row and six-row malt, rice, and hops, both American and European varieties. It uses a very different and distinct brewing process to produce a distinctively different, lower calorie beer with a crisp, clean taste.

Even though the micro-brewed beers are more flavorful and are gaining in popularity, the marketing people have help make Bud Light the best selling brand in the US!

American beer is an oxymoron. There is NO such thing as American beer. What Americans drink is dog piss! BLEH!

We've got all kinds of beer in the US. In terms of sheer variety, most small American cities exceed Europe in beer choices. There are an ever-increasing number of micro and craft options, and many of the old regional brews are still available. And I haven't even mentioned imports or the major factory breweries' attempts to catch the beer-ier beer craze. If you think that US beer choices end at Budweiser, you are mistaken. It is true, however, that most beer bought in the US is little more than rancid bear piss. Even the humblest convenience store, however, now offers better choices today.

Orangeboom – that’s my favourite. 6 cans and a bottle of buckfast should do the trick

There are many beers produced in the US that stand up to any produced elsewhere in the world.
Budweiser is not one of them in my opinion but it is a classic lager and tastes like it is supposed to taste. Its a little bland for me, I like stouts.

Weyerbacher Spiced Pumpkin Ale. Any Weyerbacher for that matter. Most American Lagers are similar in taste. Watered down for mass consumption. Craft beers are taking over. Troegs Mad Elf!!

Larry, if you are going to say that all American beers suck, don’t list a beer like Labatt Blue as a far superior beer. Although I do enjoy it, it is no better than Yuengling or anything from Samual Adams. And by the way its Labatt Blue, not Labatt’s Blue.

American Pilsner the worlds best. Hop and Malt neutral, fresh, clean perfect balance. Store bought or Home Brewed

if you like to be social, bud lite. you can drink about 20 before an actual “buzz” transpires. If you like to drink beer for taste and effect, try Flying Dog Gonzo Ale, Golden Monkey Belgium Strong Ale, or Chimay Blue. These are STRONG, flavorful beers worthy of compliment. However, drink with caution, as about 36 oz of any of these beers may produce a somewhat “drunken” state of being.

The best all American beer is Corona or it can be also Heinken.

Canadians think that American beer is piss, because they only bother to import the mass-marketed piss beer. Screw’em. We’ll save the good stuff for us.

Try something by Sierra Nevada or Goose Island, and then get off your high horse, Canucks.

AMERICA RULES. EUROPEAN BEER IS STRONGER BECAUSE THEY NEED IT MORE.
Shall my country come and bail your country out of ANOTHER war? Or would you prefer we just let you lose for once?

neither of those beers are american…and the us produces some of the worlds best beer from rogue brewery in oregon to dogfishhead in delaware. (2 amazing breweries).

Brendy, Corona is Mexican and Heineken is Dutch. Good Game.

Heinken has that “skunked” right from the factory taste. You can get the same flavor by buying a case of Busweiser and leave it in your garage from late summer to early spring. About 20-30 freeze-thaw cycles should do it. Then crack it open to enjoy that smooth Heinken funk.

Bud Light has always been my choice of beers in the USA! If I am eating Mexican Food I prefer Corona however, when I was in Australia these beers were not available. I tried XXXX, VB “Victoria’s Bitter” and Toohey’s New (My Favorite Aussie Beer was available at Outback Restaurant for a brief period of time). I have also drank beer with Germans that were importing kegs of (unknown at the time) Beer named “Varsteiner” (pronounced as “Warsteiner” in the USA) and was marketed in Malls in the USA and also was available in Grocery Stores (I have not looked lately but may still be).

Using rice as an ingredient for beer should be punishable by tarring and feathering. Prohibition ruined American beer for decades; thankfully the situation has started to change for the better.

corona is an American beer…last time i checked “America” runs from the one continent to the next…i.e. North Central & South “America” …the notion that “America” refers only to the U.S. is IGNORANT…all beer is good!!!

Had a “blind” beer tasting of beers from around the world and Brahma from Brazil won it hands down! Least favorite was one from Iceland, the name of which escapes me. Probably why beer was banned in Iceland.
