by tom on February 23, 2007

Data collected in 2006, shows that the most popular baby name in England and Wales for boys was Jack. Jack is also an extremely popular name for boys globally, as it is also listed as the most popular baby name for bays in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Australia in 2006. For British babies that are female, the most popular baby name was Olivia. Interestingly, Olivia is also the most popular name for girls in Australia.

Rising immigration numbers pose the biggest threat to native baby names in England, though popular British baby names have remained consistent over the past several years.
The most popular British baby names for girls in the last five years have been: Olivia, Jessica, Grace, and Ruby. For boys: Jack, Oliver, Thomas, and Harry.
