Most Popular German Baby Names

by tom on February 23, 2007

German statistical data shows that Alexander was the most popular German baby name for boys in 2005. Other baby names that were popular for German boys were Maximilian, Leon, Lukas/Lucas and Flinn/Flynn. For girls, Leonie/Leoni was most popular, with Sophie/Sofie, Maria, and Anna all trailing closely.

Several native German names have become popular internationally. People in other countries are warming up to German baby names such as Hans, Jan and Ursula. Even though immigration levels into Germany and many other countries are at an all time high, the popular names for German babies have stayed more consistent than some countries.
