Most Popular Mexican Baby Names

by jeremy on September 3, 2008

El Instituto Nacional de Estadística published their list of the most popular baby names in Mexico in 2006. Mexican children usually have one or two given names followed by two apellidos. The first appellido is that of the father while the second is that of the mother. This naming system allows a father’s name to last two generations even through a daughter—a level of male superiority unparalleled by our own patronymic system.

The most popular baby names for boys in Mexico are Alejandro, Juan Carlos, Miguel Angel, Eduardo and Fernando. For girls, the most popular names are Gabriela, María Carmen, Adriana, Alejandra and María Guadalupe
